I saw my first movie on IMAX 3D today and it was The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and I just wanna say that if Peter Jackson continues on this path, he will dethrone the Star Wars prequel trilogy as the biggest disappointments in cinematic history.
I am really no one to tell Peter Jackson about storytelling but all I can say is I wanted to see the story of Bilbo Baggins, not of Thorin and Gandalf. He did great in the LOTR trilogy, crystal clear, "Frodo, destroy the ring in mount doom". This movie isn't about Bilbo, it's about CGI trickery and New Zealand tourism.
This movie is actually a lesson for all storytellers that how even the great writers can terribly falter if they don't tell the story they intended to and the worst thing is, when they do this for no particular reason.
